Seeking to restore credibility to the automating of the Dominican voting system, the Central Electoral Board says it has the requested technical collaboration of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). The JCE says the request was made following a recommendation of the Organization of American States (OAS).
The request is for an analysis of source codes, software functionality, data integrity and security, and system transparency.
In a press release, the JCE states that the request is in an attempt to provide peace of mind to both political actors and civil society regarding the upcoming elections.
The JCE says that the JCE is supplying all technical information required by officials and experts of the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES). The JCE says it has requested the support to seek a technical collaboration of the US Election Assistance Commission (EAC). The US Election Assistance Commission (EAC) was established in the United States by the Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA). EAC is described as an independent, bipartisan commission charged with developing guidance to meet HAVA requirements, adopting voluntary voting system guidelines, and serving as a national clearinghouse of information on election administration. EAC also accredits testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, as well as audits the use of HAVA funds.
