Chilly air brings pneumonia cases
A recent flu virus is making the rounds in the Dominican Republic. Robert Reid Cabral Children’s Hospital deputy director, Dr. Clemente Terrero alerts that the virus comes with acute respiratory infections. He says the hospital has seen an increase of patients with pneumonia in the past four weeks. He reported 189 cases just in one week.
“The most affected are always children at this stage; the most influential thing is climate change,” he said. The chilling and recent rains trigger the development of viruses which can become an epidemic,” he said.
The National Meteorological Office (Onamet) forecasts rains and chilly weather to continue this week.
