No one can forecast who will win 2020 general election

Political strategist Dorín Cabrera says there is no clear victory winner in the 2020 presidential race. Speaking during the talk “Political Science and Electoral Market Analysis 2020” at the Universidad Tecnológica de Santiago (UTESA), Cabrera spoke of the complexity of Dominican voters and new events within the main political forces.

Cabrera is a recognized Dominican political marketing expert. He says in the interview: “The vote is not rational, it is emotional. This means no candidate is secure for any position. He says the winner of a poll today may not win tomorrow.

He lamented the “war of polls” going on in the country. He remarked most are showing results well removed from reality.

During his presentation, Cabrera shared insights from past electoral campaigns. He spoke of the role television has played in the past. “Through television, the population witnessed a debate between Professor Juan Bosch and Father Jesuita Lautico García in 1962, which would be decisive for the win of the late PLD founder.

Likewise, he recalled the success of the TV advertising strategy used by the campaign team of Salvador Jorge Blanco in 1981. “Advertising spots were created without saturating the viewers.” He recalled the strategy was designed after conducting surveys and thus discovering the weaknesses and strengths of the candidate. He said the campaign projected a fresh image of Jorge Blanco and he would go on to win the PRD primary and then the presidential election.

Cabrera said that at that time, the television and radio spots, ads in printed media, together with live appearances on television and radio programs, with articles published in various newspapers, combined with his hand-to-hand encounters with people in the communities gave Salvador Jorge Blanco the presidential aura that won him the Presidency.
