National District needs to improve electricity supply a lot for EVs

The car market in the Dominican Republic is changing slowly to include Electric Vehicles (EVs). This is part of the national move towards diversifying the energy matrix. However, a recent INTEC university study says the country has not prepared for the demand. The INTEC study says that the conversion to electric vehicles could now bring adverse radical effects. The research focuses on the technical loss from transmission lines as well as a decrease in the voltage within the network feeding the re-charging stations when several EV cars or trucks connect to the system at the same time.

The study “The Potential Impact of EVs in the Distribution Networks of the National District, Dominican Republic,” published in the “Science, Engineering and Applications Journal” of INTEC warns that the increased demand for electricity would initially bring severe issues for the Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE).
