Wanda Mendez of the Listin Diario has interviewed 23 centenarians from all around the Dominican Republic to find out the secrets of their long lives. She writes that what they have had in common are their healthy lifestyles.
She writes that most have had good nutrition from childhood, are devout Catholics, are in close contact with friends and family, have had few if any vices, are known for their exemplary behavior and have had an active work life. She writes that their economic status is not decisive in their longevity. Some have lived comfortably, while others have lived in poverty.
