Official COE tally: 12 dead for peak Christmas holidays

Traffic accidents, alcohol-related incidents and fights were the major causes of the many people treated over the Christmas holidays at public hospitals. The Center for Emergency Operations (COE) has said that there were 12 fatalities over the 24 December and 25 December peak Christmas holiday period.

According to official sources, most of the fatalities were persons not wearing their helmets. He said that there were 95 traffic accidents, 74 involving motorcycle drivers. There were 214 reported cases of alcoholic beverage intoxication, including 19 minors. The numbers are similar to 2018, when 11 deaths were reported.
