Sad record to start 2020: 4 femicides in a day

Four femicides and one survivor of the injuries is the toll of the first day of 2020. Already 2019 was a year that ended with 80 femicides.

The first victim of domestic violence this year were Yajaira Jiménez, who was stabbed to death in San José de Ocoa by her spouse. In Los Mameyes in Santo Domingo East, an unnamed Venezuelan woman was murdered by police officer Jesus Ferreras Cuello. In Rio San Juan, Angelita Sanchez was murdered by her spouse who was arrested by the Police. In La Regola, Puerto Plata, Cleury de Olmo was murdered by her husband. A fifth woman was stabbed in Sosúa, but survived the attack.

According to statistics from the Office of the Attorney General of the Republic (PGR), from January to November 2005-2019 there have been 1,295 femicides recorded in the Dominican Republic.
