The candidate for mayor of the National District for the new People’s Force Party (Fuerza del Pueblo), Johnny Ventura was at the municipal Duarte market on Saturday, 4 January 2020, to explain his proposals to the vendors. He promised better conditions for the merchants, including adequate management of solid wastes. Ventura also met with trade organizations of the Avenida Duarte shopping district, another area that is affected by city chaos. He toured the Duarte Avenue with Paris intersection and spoke with the merchants. The markets have been neglected by present and past municipal authorities.
During the tour, Ventura was accompanied by Vice Mayor candidate Hony Estrella, and the head of their campaign, César Fernández.
The meetings ended with a luncheon at a traditional restaurant in Chinatown off Duarte Avenue.
79-year old Ventura is a legendary merengue band-leader who served as mayor for Santo Domingo from 1998 to 2002.
