Colombia and Panama will play in the Caribbean Series, Cuba is out

For the first time, Colombia will be sending a professional baseball team to the Caribbean Series. Panama will also be playing. The Panamanian team seeks to validate their win of the series in 2019, when after the series was relocated to Panama at last minute after political crisis escalated in Venezuela. Panama’s local championship team would participate as a guest team. The rules of the series were also changed for that tournament. Incredibly, Panama would go on to win the series. Now Panama has a chance to vindicate itself and again finish the series in first place, but this time with the full rights to the championship.

The Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation has announced that the championship team of the 2019-2020 tournament of the Colombian Professional Baseball League (LPB) is officially invited to participate in the Caribbean Series San Juan 2020, to be held from 1 to 7 February. Juan Puello, president of the Caribbean Professional Baseball Confederation, announced that the Cuban National Series champion team that would have competed as a guest team will now not do so because obtaining visas for the team players has been difficult.

Caribbean Commissioner Juan F. Puello Herrera said that Cuba is welcome to participate as a guest country in the 2021 version of the Caribbean Series scheduled for Mazatlan, Mexico.

The Dominican Professional Winter Baseball Championship continues this weekend. The Toros del Este of La Romana are in first place, followed by the Tigres del Licey, Leones del Escogido and Aguilas Cibaeñas. The first two teams move on to the playoffs to choose the Dominican team that will participate in the Caribbean Series.
