
Apache Corporation and Total SA say that they have found “significant” deposits of oil off the coast of Suriname. The Suriname discovery follows a previous major strike in offshore Guyana by Exxon Mobil Corporation.
Apache was recently authorized by the Ministry of Energy and Mines to carry out exploration and exploitation for oil and gas in an offshore block in the San Pedro de Macorís basin in the Dominican Republic. The contract still requires congressional approval.
