Construction continues on bus terminal despite court ruling

The Ministry of Public Works has continued to build the bus terminal in East Santo Domingo in spite of a decision handed down by the Constitutional Court and another by the Superior Administrative Court (TSA), both ordering a cease-and-desist to the project.

There have been at least three judicial decisions that demand a work stoppage, but Public Works Minister Ramon Pepin has ignored them all.

Legislators and jurists say disobeying a judicial order is a crime that can be punished by firing and removal from all functions, jobs or public responsibilities. The decisions by the different courts all acknowledge the project is irregularly being constructed in a protected area.
