Santiago mayor Abel Martínez is confident he will be reelected

Abel Martínez says he is running on his track record of his first term as mayor of Santiago. He takes pride in the general clean up of the city, and restoring the credibility and confidence in the city government amongst the business community and the population in general.

During an interview for the Corripio media group, Martínez said he took over a city with more than RD$2 billion debt to suppliers and contractors and over 2,000 improvised dumpsites. He says he has recovered city finances and restored city cleanliness.

The Martínez campaign team stresses the numerous new or renovated parks as a major achievement. These include the Ercilia Pepín, Archbishop Portes (Los Chachaces), Chilote Llenas, Duarte, Colón, Hermanas Mirabal, Imbert, Los Jardines Lineal, Mejoramiento Social, Parque de Los Trabajadores and Nicolás Vargas, among others.

He says he has 70% popularity and expects to be reelected on 16 February 2020. Martinez is running on the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) ticket.
