President Danilo Medina announced the construction of a dam at Boca Los Rios, a project that will cost at least RD$2.1 billion. The reservoir will make use of the waters of the Guayubín River to meet the region’s demands for potable water and irrigation for farming in the northwestern region.
The project will be built with funds of the Dominican Hydro-electric Generation Company (EGEHID).
The dam will regulate the waters of the Guayubin and Yaguajal rivers. Over 18,000 tareas (over 1000 ha.) will be irrigated for farming and Santiago Rodríguez and Dajabón and over 40 communities and 300,000 people will get potable water. The dam will be 35 meters high and located about 250 meters below the confluence of the Guayubín and Yaguajal rivers.
CERCONS RD won the public tender for the dam construction and the surrounding peripheral facilities such as canals and coffer dams. Cercons RD was registered with Onapi in July 2018. The registration indicates its main officer is the company Constructora TJ, SRL.
