The tragedy of the murder of a four-year old in northern Santiago

Four-year old Yanesy Rodríguez was buried last week. The child had gone missing on Saturday, 4 January 2020, after her mother sent her to the neighborhood grocery shop some 200 meters away from her home. It was around 10 pm. The child was given RD$200 to make a purchase. She never was seen again.

A16-year old teenager, who is a relative of the victim, is the lead suspect in the murder of four-year old. As reported, he would have sexually abused the victim. Also under arrest is 31-year old Franklin Fernández Cruz. El Dia reports it was Fernández who led the Police investigators to where they found the body.

Fernández Cruz told Police investigators he helped the youths to get rid of the body and that he did so because he was drunk. He denied participating in the murder of the child. He was a family friend and had participated in the search for the child.

News reports that the 16-year old had previously been accused of rape of a relative.

The body of the child was found in a garbage dump some 400 meters from her home in Barranca, in the municipality of Sabana Iglesia, Santiago. Spokesman for the Police, Colonel Juan Guzmán Badía said that the two youths that were arrested admitted to the murder.

The father of the 4-year old, Ramón Antonio Pérez Espinal (Checo), a farmer, has more than a year separated from the mother of the deceased. He has two other daughters (ages six and eight) with the 23-year mother of the victim. The grandmother of the children says she will seek custody.
