The delegate of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Orlando Jorge Mera dropped ice water on city voters. The flexibility of voting for legislators and for the President of a different political party does not apply in the municipal election set for 16 February. In the municipal election, the vote for the city councilors will be allocated to the city mayor of the same political party.
Jorge Mera explained that the vote for a city mayor will not determine the city councilors. But when voting for a city councilor, the vote will automatically be applied to the mayor candidate of the same political party. This is established in Electoral Regime Law 15-19. That is, if you vote for a city councilor, your vote will automatically count for the mayor of the same political party.
“We are educating our followers to vote first for the political party, then for the mayor and last for the city councilor of your preference,” he said when participating in the talk show “Los Sabios en la Z” on Z101.3 FM on Sunday, 12 January 2020.
