A Santiago court ordered a year of preventive custody in the Azua Jail to 31-year old Franklin Fernández Cruz. He is accused, along with a 16-year old boy, of the death of four-year old Yanesy Rodríguez in Santiago. The child was raped and beaten to death. The defense lawyers say they have evidence to prove the case. Prosecutors say the clothes the child wore on the day of her disappearance were found in Fernández’s home.
In a separate development on the case, the National Children’s Council (Conani) was given custody for the 9 and 6-year old sisters of the murdered child. The children lived with their mother, Yannery Altagracia Rodríguez. The grandmother had sought custody.
