Presidential candidate for the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM), Luis Abinader, says his government will promote the construction of another 25,000 hotel rooms nationwide in four years. Of these, he foresees building 3,000 in Pedernales.
He proposed the construction of two Disney or Universal Studios-like entertainment parks. He also favors the development of a convention center in Santo Domingo. During his presentation of his tourism plan, he spoke of the construction of two multimodal ports in Barahona in the southwest and Manzanillo in the northwest.
He said his government would continue to back the development of the Santo Domingo Colonial City. He said his government would back medical tourism and foreign investment in vacation property in the country. He also spoke of supporting gastronomical tourism nationwide. He said his government would work closely with the private sector to relaunch the destinations of Puerto Plata, Juan Dolio and Samaná.
Abinader favors the government support for a national airline, while at the same time keeping up with the backing of international airlines. He said his government backs the signing of pre-clearance with the United States government.
He also supports the construction of a road that would connect Puerto Plata to the Santiago Cibao International Airport in a 30-minute drive.
He favors the proposal made by the private sector for a private trust for tourism promotion.
