
There 146,166 cases of Dominicans waiting for a residence visa to the United States, according to immigration specialist Roque Leonel Rodríguez. The cases are processed at the United States National Visa Center. As reported, the Dominican Republic is ranked seventh in the world in number of legal immigration papers requested in the United States.
Rodríguez says the cases that are fast-tracked are those of spouses of residents and their minor children. He says of these there are 15,985 in the system.
Waiting years for their residence permits are the brothers and sisters of American citizens, some 57,737, equivalent to 39.2%. The residence permits for this category are being approved for cases submitted in 2007.
On the waiting list there are also 35,294 single children of residents waiting for residence and 15,780 married children.
Rodriguez explained that the National Visa Center is working on the July 2013 applications for the unmarried children of US citizens; August 2014 for the unmarried children of residents; November 2007 for the married children of residents; and February 2007 for the siblings of US citizens.
