
The Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) is the largest port of entry for tourists to the Dominican Republic. It is also the leading airport in number of airlines flying into a Latin American or Caribbean airport.
Exporters are now using the many air connections for freight lift. Franklin Núñez, president of the Dominican Association of Customs Agents (ADAA), says Punta Cana International Airport is already third in the region in cargo shipments. He mentions that Colombia is using the airport to get their cultivated roses to Russia in less than 48 hours.
“Planes arrive from Colombia to Punta Cana, the roses are unloaded from one plane to another in 30 minutes and from there they go to Russia. We are a regional cargo distribution hub,” Núñez said.
Núñez announced that the IV International Congress of Authorized Economic Operators that will be held in Punta Cana from 13-15 February 2020 with the participation of the directors of customs agencies from the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Panama, Uruguay, Spain and Paraguay.
