PRSC complains government has not disbursed due allotments

The technical delegate before the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for the Christian Social Reformist Party (PRSC), Ramón Feliz Madera, denounced that the political parties have not yet received their budgeted allotments.

“That is fraud. A few days before the elections, it had never been seen that after the resources were allocated (to the JCE), the funds were withheld from the political parties to back candidacies in each of the voting districts. These are fraud tactics by the ruling party,” Madera said.

The PRSC delegate added that the parties have assumed economic commitments with these resources and that the lack of them has left them “badly off. “They are drowning us,” he added.

Madera made these statements while serving as an observer in the process of transferring the ballots from Editora Corripio to the JCE’s logistics warehouse.

Following the statements by Madera, on 30 January 2020, El Dia newspaper reported that the Medina administration had just transferred the resources to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) for distribution to the political parties. The JCE president has stated that in February the political parties would receive RD$3.33 billion for campaign activities. The JCE has a budget this year of RD$10.86 billion, of which RD$4.5 billion is allotted for electoral expenditures.

Political Parties Law 33-18 establishes that in electoral years, the economic distribution by the state to the political parties will be 0.5 % of the income of public funds for their campaign activities.
