
This is the third time that the La Romana team, Los Toros del Este competes for the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean Series, the regional championship league. The Toros had won the Dominican Professional Baseball Championship in 1994-1995, 2010-2011 and this 2019-2020. For their win this year, the Toros set a record for most wins in a championship with 51. Of these, 34 were in the regular season, 12 in the round robin and 5 in the playoffs).
The Toros say on their roster will be Yunesky Maya, Jorge Martinez, Carlos Hernandez, Raul Valdes and Paolo Espino. Also relief pitchers Frankie De la Cruz, Jhan Maríñez, Luis Santos and Warner Madrigal. Also, Tim Peterson, Anthony Carter, Warner Madrigal, closer Ramon Ramirez, as well as Wirfin Obispo, Jumbo Diaz and left-handed Romanista Fernando Abad.
Offensive players will include Peter O’Brien, Alen Hanson, Jorge Mateo, Jordany Valdespín, Junior Lake, Félix Pie and Rubén Sosa. Joining them from other Dominican teams will be Diego Goris (Aguilas), Gustavo Nunez (Estrellas Orientales), Wilkin Castillo and Jimmy Paredes (Leones) and Carlos Paulino (Gigantes del Cibao)
“We are very confident that this team will win the trophy,” said Raymond Abreu, general manager of Los Toros. “We are still making adjustments and if we see any possibility of improving the team we will do it,” he added.
This year the Caribbean Series will be played in San Juan, Puerto Rico from 1 to 7 February 2020. The contenders are:

The Dominican Republic plays Mexico on the opening day of Saturday, 1 February at the Hiram Bithorn ball park in San Juan.
