The Central Electoral Board (JCE) said the objection to 176 candidates to municipal candidacies nationwide is “inadmissible”. The ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD) had submitted a motion against the nominations, saying that Electoral Regime Law 15-19 and Political Parties Law 33-18 both ban defector candidates. The PLD complained that these politicians had initially run for their appointments on the PLD ticket and, after having lost, had switched to another party where they would win the right to compete in the 16 February municipal election.
The JCE ruled that it is not their responsibility to hear objections to candidacies that have been admitted by the municipal boards. That this is responsibility of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE).
