DR to play semifinals in Caribbean Series

A Wilkin Castillo home run delivered the victory to the DR over Panama in Caribbean Series on Tuesday, 4 February 2020. In game 4 of the Caribbean Series, the homerun enabled the DR to win 4-3. The DR had been losing 3-0 in the 5th inning.

The Dominican Republic has now won the right to play in the semi-finals starting on Thursday, 6 February. The playoffs then will be on Friday, 7 February.

The artist Ozuna is booked to sing in the Wednesday, 5 February game. Dominican baseball legend David Ortiz (“Big Papi”) will be throwing the symbolic opening pitch at the Hiram Bithorn Ballpark in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Ozuna was born in Puerto Rico to a Puerto Rican mom and a Dominican dad and has always said he is the product of his two cultures. The Puerto Rico vs. Dominican Republic game at the 19,120-seat Hiram Bithorn Ballpark is sold out. The game starts at 8pm. Previously, Venezuela will play Panama and Colombia will match Mexico.

The Dominican Republic has won 3 of its four commitments during the San Juan Caribbean Series. The DR has defeated Mexico, Colombia and Panama. It has lost to Venezuela.

This is the third time the Dominican Republic is represented by the Toros del Este. The team has yet to win a Caribbean Series.
