PRM: There is no time to formalize Domingo Contreras and PRD alliance

Miguel Vargas, president of the Dominican Revolutionary Party (PRD), announced on Tuesday, 4 February 2020 the party would be backing Domingo Contreras, the PLD candidate to mayor for the National District in the 16 February 2020 municipal election. Nevertheless, it is yet to be seen if this backing can be more than just an intention.

Dionisio de los Santos, the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) IT delegate to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) says there is no time for the PRD and PLD to formalize their alliance. He said the deadline for municipal political alliances has already expired.

The PRD was left without a candidate after their National District mayor candidate, Hugo Beras, resigned to campaign for Carolina Mejia of the PRM.

In a press conference on Tuesday, 4 February, the president of the PRD also announced city councilors that were running on the same ticket with Hugo Beras were asked to resign to back the PLD candidates.
