Santiago to get a new hotel, convention center and mall

Grupo Agora announced the construction of the Santiago Center in Santiago, a US$130 million investment. The Santiago Center is owned by Green Earth Investments Ltd., a company affiliated with the successful Agora Mall of Santo Domingo. The venture is promoted as the largest investment in the second largest city of the Dominican Republic in the past 15 years. The venture is scheduled to open at the end of 2022.

The mixed-use development will combine a Hilton hotel, convention center and shopping mall. The new Santiago Hilton Hotel is planned to receive certification as a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green construction. It will feature 177 rooms, a rooftop bar and restaurant, meeting spaces and an outdoor pool. The hotel will be the first Curio Collection by Hilton hotel in the Dominican Republic. The brand brings together independent, one-of-a-kind ventures around the world.

“As the second-largest city in the Dominican Republic, Santiago de los Caballeros continues to drive the country’s economic and cultural development, as a leading producer of tobacco, rum and cacao,” said Miguel Barletta, owner, Green Earth Investments Ltd.

Guests of Hotel Santiago can plan to visit local attractions such as Monumento de Santiago and Centro Cultural Eduardo León Jimenes, or spend the day admiring street art or discovering a trail at J. Armando Bermudez National Park. They can also visit Cibao Stadium to soak in the atmosphere and get to know the most promising stars of Dominican baseball.

The Santiago Center will go up at the intersection of Estrella Sadhalá with Juan Pablo Duarte avenues, in the city center of Santiago. It will be but a 20-minute drive from the Cibao International Airport (STI) and an hour from the Puerto Plata International Airport (POP).

The project shareholders are Miguel Barletta, Alejandro González, Jose Manuel Gonzalez. Juan Corvinos, vice president development for Latin America and the Caribbean of Hilton, and Michael Register of Trust Hospitality, the hotel operating company, came for the announcement.
