According to the head of the Santo Domingo Water and Sewage Corporation (CAASD), Alejandro Montas, the supply of water for households in Greater Santo Domingo has been adequate after the two main reservoirs (Jigüey and Valdesia) have stayed above minimum levels.
Montas says the CAASD supplied 365 million gallons a day to the people of Greater Santo Domingo last week. He added that the dam at Jigüey has reached a level of above 520 meters above sea level, when its minimum operating level is 500 meters and its maximum capacity is 541.5 meters above sea level. Valdesia also looks good, with its reservoir at over 140 meters, 9 meters above the minimum of 131 meters, and still below the maximum level of 150. Just these two dams and reservoir complexes supply 40% of the water provided to the CAD.
