The National Transport and Transit Institute (Intrant) is focusing on ways to put a stop to the many accidents occurring on the Baní-Azua highway in the area of El Número. The Ministry of Public Works, with experts from the Transport Agency (Digessett), expect to come up with a definite solution for prompt implementation.
Engineer Claudia Franchesca De los Santos, who is the Intrant director, says that speeding and passing is the common denominator of the many accidents. Recently another two people died in a collision with a bus on the lethal road curve.
“We again call on citizens, please, to exercise caution on the road. An accident can happen to anyone at any time, even without you being at fault,” she said when calling for added care to avoid accidents on the roads.
De los Santos said that regarding city traffic congestion measures, such as changing traffic patterns in the city and organizing it, will only have an effect if drivers are careful. “90% of the accidents and situations we have in traffic have to do with the human factor,” she said.
