The judges of the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) declared themselves incompetent to hear the legal complaint filed by the Frente Amplio political party against President Danilo Medina and Iris Guaba, director of the Social Plan agency. The judges say the case is not about a conflict between political parties, but rather affects government officers and should be heard by the Superior Administrative Court (TSA), in charge of reviewing government actions. The judges decided after a request on behalf of the government deposited by lawyers Eduardo Jorge Prats and Julio Cury.
The Frente Amplio party had filed a legal action accusing the President and the director of the President’s Social Plan of “flagrantly” violating the Electoral Law and the resolutions of the Central Electoral Board (JCE) regarding government procurement and donations in times of the municipal elections.
The Superior Electoral Court (TSE) originally had authorized, in an unprecedented action, at the request of the Frente Amplio, the summoning of President Medina and Social Plan director to court, asking for the stop to the use of Social Plan agency purchased goods to encourage voters to vote for government party candidates.
