
The Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (Indotel) and the Emergency Operations Center (COE) agreed to implement the National Emergency Telecommunications Mechanism (MNTE) to mitigate the effects of disasters.
Indotel will be responsible for identifying and guaranteeing frequency bands for public protection services and relief operations, and informing the relevant international entities to facilitate coordination of possible relief operations. The COE is responsible for naming the necessary personnel and financing the operational costs.
The agreement signed by Indotel president Nelson Guillén and COE president General Juan Manuel Méndez also creates a Risk Analysis and Management Unit.
The announcement comes in these days of the concern created by the Novel Coronavirus Pneumonia outbreak.
