Participación Ciudadana is demanding an investigation into what happened to lead to the suspension of the municipal election on Sunday, 16 February 2020. But the civic watchdog group is also reporting that the thousands of prosecutors the Attorney General Office named for electoral matters were worthless. PC says they have evidence that prosecutors did not answer calls made to the predetermined telephone numbers in 72% of the cases. And in the cases when these were answered, the calls were attended to by military officers or office staff.
When a prosecutor was reached, the persons were told to go in person to present the claim of an electoral crime, presenting the evidence and bringing witnesses.
In response to this version, the Attorney General’s Office said that “the Public Prosecutor’s Office operated efficiently during regular hours with telephone assistance, in accordance with its internal processes.
