National Police director Ney Aldrin Bautista says the police officer assigned to the security of Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) candidate Luis Abinader, colonel Ramon Antonio Guzmán, and a Claro technician Manuel Antonio Regalado Martinez are being investigated for their possible involvement in the failure of the automated voting system. An alleged taped conversation between the two was shared by the PRM with Noticias SIN providing insights into the would-be hacking of the electronic voting system shortly after the election was suspended. The electronic glitch resulted in the cancellation of the municipal election on 16 February 2020.
On her evening TV show, Mariasela Alvarez makes new revelations on a Claro technician who would be alerting to irregularities that could help explain what happened, leading to the suspension of the municipal election. He alerted Guzman that an army colonel (Koji Mayurama) had attempted to enter the installations of Claro in Herrera. The company did not allow this, he said. Regalado Martínez’s whereabouts are not known. Alvarez mentions that the leak reveals that Koji Maruyama, J4 and director of Logistics of the Ministry of Defense was requesting the employee provide a vehicle and uniform of Claro to go to the Central Electoral Board (JCE) and remove a device.
