DR signs trade and investment memorandum with Canada

Canada and the Dominican Republic have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Bilateral Consultations in International Affairs, Trade and Investment. Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas signed for the Ministry of Foreign Relations. Assistant Deputy Minister for the Americas Michael Grant signed for Global Affairs Canada.

Foreign Minister Vargas highlighted the mutual support and dialogue between the nations, noting that, in terms of economic exchange, the Dominican Republic has a positive trade balance. Exports to Canada were more than US$637 million and imports over US$220 million. Likewise, more than 900,000 Canadian tourists visit the country every year. Between 2010 and 2019, Canada’s investment in the DR totaled US$4.58 billion.
