The Superior Council of the Public Prosecutor’s Office postponed the competition to appoint 29 prosecutors nationwide. A new date has yet to be announced. The announcement states that the decision was reached after accepting the recommendations of civil society entities that understood an electoral period is not the right time to hold a prosecutor competition. El Dia and Acento news publications had alerted the population as to the irregularities in the February competition.
In 2018, the Attorney General Office had organized a previous overhaul of prosecutors in the Dominican Republic. Investigative journalist Edith Febles at the time denounced several irregularities in that contest. Febles was fired from her news commentator job at CDN TV station for her coverage of the irregularities.
