
Legendary Dominican sports chronicler Cuqui Cordova (Emilio Nicolas Cordova) died on Saturday, 7 March. He was 91 years old. He passed away at the Centro Médico Moderno in Los Prados neighborhood in Santo Domingo. He is survived by his wife Mercedes Roca and three children and 10 grandchildren.
He maintained a column in Listin Diario for years. Cordova on two occasions was president of the Dominican Sports Chroniclers Association (ACD). He served as president, vice president and secretary of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame over a 30-year period.
He was decorated with the Duarte, Sánchez and Mella award, the broadcaster golden microphone award, the best sports chronicler in 1977, the Golden Caonabo Award in 2019 by the Dominican Association of Writers and Journalists (ASEPED).
After being a popular sportswriter and sports newscaster, he dedicated himself to writing Dominican sports history. He has over a dozen books on baseball. He is also the creator of the Shell Awards.
