The Milwaukee Twins defeated the Detroit Tigers at noon on Saturday, 7 March 2020 at the Quisqueya – Juan Marichal Baseball Stadium in Santo Domingo. The exhibition game was part of the Grapefruit League, the spring training league for Major League Baseball players. This was the first MLB game to be played in the Dominican Republic since 2000. It was the Tigers’ first international spring outing since they played against the Cardinals in Puerto Rico in 1980.
A dozen Dominican MLB players delighted the local fans. In the game, Dominican Miguel Sanó hit a two-run homerun in the third inning to the delight of the sold-out crowd.
MLB explains that the trip to Santo Domingo is part of Major League Baseball’s ongoing efforts to expose the game internationally.
The pitch of honor was thrown by Pedro Martínez and Vladimir Guerrero.
