Vice President Margarita Cedeño has the peculiar circumstance of having been two times First Lady with her husband former President Leonel Fernandez and two times Vice President with incumbent President Danilo Medina. On 24 February 2020, she was chosen the vice presidential candidate for the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD).
Campaign strategists hope her favorable image can contribute to boost Gonzalo Castillo’s popularity after her husband split from the party taking with him his most loyal backers. Leonel Fernández had sought to be the PLD presidential candidate but was defeated by former Public Works Minister Gonzalo Castillo who has the backing of President Danilo Medina. In the primary campaign, Cedeño backed her husband. But after Fernandez split from the party to form the People’s Force political party, she announced she would no longer back his aspirations and instead would stick by her boss, President Danilo Medina and his chosen candidate, Gonzalo Castillo.
But as matters go, years of backing her husband and President Danilo Medina came naturally to her, when on the campaign trail for PLD candidate to mayor in San Cristóbal, Nelson Guillen, she instinctively told a CDN reporter: “The enthusiasm of the Dominican people, specifically San Cristóbal, who are here with us to seal the triumph, the sure victory of Leonel? of Danilo, of Gonzalo and Margarita, in short, I believe that it is the PLD that wins,” said the Vice President.
At the time, Margarita Cedeño was wearing a hat with a large M. It is supposed she is promoting her own self. In 2019, for months, Cedeño had aspired to be the Solomonic solution when President Danilo Medina and her husband Leonel Fernández both sought the candidacy for 2020.
Meanwhile, Somos Pueblo news portal reports that the Panorama Semanal news analysis program on Color Vision was not aired because it was censored. The program is hosted by psychiatrist Hector Guerrero Heredia, philosopher Ricardo Nieves and PLD politician Domingo Paez, and is recorded on Thursdays and transmitted on Sundays at 9am by Color Vision apparently was censored by the channel.
The program would have focused on an analysis by the hosts of the psychological, sociological, political aspects of the life of Margarita Cedeño.
