Who will be the vice-presidential candidates for the PRM, FP and AlPais?

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) has given political parties until midnight on Tuesday, 10 March 2020 to announce their presidential and vice-presidential candidates for the 17 May 2020 election. The date previously had been set for 3 March, but it was extended after the disruption caused by the aborted municipal election on 16 February.

Gonzalo Castillo, running for President on the ruling Dominican Liberation Party (PLD), announced on 24 February 2020 that Vice President Margarita Cedeño will be his vice-presidential candidate. Cedeño was a two-time First Lady when her husband Leonel Fernández was President (2004-2008, 2008-2012), and a two-time Vice President with President Danilo Medina (2012-2016, 2016-2020).

Luis Abinader, running for President on the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) ticket; Leonel Fernández, running for President on the People’s Force ticket, and Guillermo Moreno, running for Al Pais, have yet to announce who else will be on the ballot with them. The daughter of former President Hipólito Mejía was Abinader’s vice presidential candidate when he ran in 2016 against President Danilo Medina. Recent Greenberg and Mark Penn polls show Abinader leading with a comfortable margin over Castillo of the PLD.

Fernández was President from 1996-2000 with psychiatrist Jaime David Fernández Mirabal as his Vice President. He returned to power in 2004-2008 and 2008-2012 with Rafael Alburquerque serving as his Vice President.

Guillermo Moreno of Alianza Pais ran in 2008 with professor Maria Teresa Cabrera as running mate in 2012 with poet and gender expert Scherezada (Chiqui) Vicioso, and in 2016 with sociologist Mary Cantisano as vice presidential candidate.
