Discussions continue over who will be the electoral prosecutor

The Social and Economic Council-sponsored debates at the Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra continue on this Wednesday, 11 March 2020 with the focus on the electoral prosecutor. The law establishes that the prosecutor is to be appointed by the Public Ministry Council presided over by the Attorney General. The Medina administration is standing behind Attorney General Jean Alain Rodríguez, probably the most discredited government officer.

The Presidency indeed even recognized Rodríguez’s lack of capacity to prosecute electoral crimes, when it invited the Organization of American States to investigate the reasons for the failure of the e-voting machines, removing this responsibility from the Attorney General Office.

During the session on Tuesday, 10 March, Senator José Ignacio Paliza criticized that the Public Ministry had been carrying out contest after contest to ensure that the prosecutors are persons they trust to guarantee impunity when the present government is no longer in power.

Independent media has been airing several cases of violations to the law and Constitution by the Public Ministry and Attorney General Office.
