
A poll carried out on 29 February 2020 by the Cibao Economic Center reveals that if the elections were held on the day of the poll, Luis Abinader of the Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) would win comfortably over the government candidate, Gonzalo Castillo of the Dominican Liberation Party (PLD). The numbers are 56.6% to 18.9%. Former President Leonel Fernandez, running for the People’s Force, would receive 14.7% and Guillermo Moreno 2.6%. 1,500 persons were polled.
The Centro Economico del Cibao poll also reveals that when those polled were asked about their party following, the PRM received 41.8% compared to 30.5% for the ruling PLD and 2.3% for the new People’s Force (Fuerza del Pueblo). This means around 20% of voters are independent of party affiliation.
The same polling company on 29 February 2020 asked 1,200 voters in the National District who they would vote for. The answers were: Carolina Mejía of the PRM winning comfortably in the National District with 58.4% of the vote, compared to Domingo Contreras of the PLD with 29.7%, Johnny Ventura of (FP) with 5.2%, Michael Miguel Holguin of the Partido Verde with 1.4% and Bartolomé Pujals (AlPais) with 1%. When asked for party affiliation, 41.9% said they are inclined to the PRM, 27.6% to the ruling PLD, 6.7% to the FP and 18.5% said to no party.
