Adequate water levels are now restored at most of the 35 dams in the country, announced Olgo Fernández, director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), in a Diario Libre interview. “We have had two weather systems that have brought heavy rains that have improved the phreatic level of soils, leaving these saturated,” he said. He said the water levels at the Rincon, Hatillo, Tavera, Monción, Sabana Yegua and Sabaneta dams are again acceptable after months of drought. He said the rains are timely and forecast a good year if these continue. He said that April, May and June are months with usually an acceptable amount of rain.
The forecast is for heavy rains to continue on Thursday, 12 March 2020 as a frontal system crosses the country.
