Dominican Port Authority cancels all cruise ship arrivals

The Dominican Port Authority (Apordom) reported on Sunday, 15 March 2020, that cruise ship passengers arriving on ships to Dominican ports are being transferred to the international airports of La Romana, Las Americas (Santo Domingo) and Punta Cana to travel to their final destinations in Europe.

Apordom says that the three ships that were in Dominican ports at the time of the cancellation of cruise ship travel were the Club Med with 380 passengers, Aida Luna with 840, and Aida Diva with 2,025, for a total of 3,245 passengers. These were transferred by bus from the port terminal to different airports. The passengers were not allowed to circulate outside the ship or have contact with any person outside of qualified personnel and supervisors of the operation.

The operation has been carried out by Apordom in coordination with the Ministries of the Presidency, Public Health, Tourism and Defense, as well as the Migration and the Specialized Port Security Body (CESEP) agencies, in addition to the support of the Dominican Navy. The measure is to comply with the provisions and measures announced by the Special Commission appointed by President Danilo Medina to work on issues related to Covid-19 virus.
