Haiti announces closing of border crossing points

The government of Haiti announced that it is only allowing cargo freight containers to cross the border. Flights and passenger bus trips between both countries are also suspended. The measure is taken to contain the spreading of the Covid-19 virus from the Dominican Republic to Haiti.
Haiti is only allowing flights from the United States. US authorities are carrying out screening tests before boarding passengers, after an agreement with the Haitian government. Haiti as of yet has not reported its first case of Covid-19.

Haitian Minister of the Interior Audain F. Bernadel announced that “the Haitian-Dominican border will be closed from Monday, 16 March 2020 at midnight and that only the goods will be able to enter Haiti and that the personnel ensuring the transport goods is subject to screening tests.”
