Ministry of Health designates FAD hospital for Covid-19 patients

Public Health Minister Rafael Sánchez Cárdenas announced the Ramon de Lara Military Hospital, of the San Isidro Air Force Base in eastern Santo Domingo has been designated as the dedicated medical unit to handle Covid-19 patients and those that the health system determines should not maintain domiciliary quarantine.

As of Sunday, 15 March 2020, the Ministry of Public Health Minister Sánchez Cárdenas told reporters that the Ramón de Lara Hospital has 70 beds to attend Covid-19 patients and another 15 are being added this week. Nationwide he said there are 376 beds at the four designated hospitals. Sánchez Cárdenas said that by the end of the month, there will be 600 beds nationwide. This is way up from the 12 beds available in early February.

The Minister said that the medical staff will be provided with psychological assistance, sufficient rest areas and will work just six-hour shifts to be in top shape to attend their patients. The Ministry has trained over 300 persons regarding the protocols to follow in the treatment of Covid-19.
