
The Dominican Public Electricity Corporation (CDEEE) announced the suspension of the inauguration ceremony of the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Power Plant (CTPC). President Danilo Medina was scheduled to participate in the official ceremony set for Tuesday, 17 March at 10 am.
The Medina administration announced on Monday, 16 March that the suspension of the inaugural ceremony is part of the preventive measures adopted by the Government, following the recommendations of the World Health Organization (WHO), to avoid the spread of the Covid-19 coronavirus.
The government says that the Punta Catalina Thermoelectric Plant continues to operate normally, with a gross contribution of 752 megawatts to the National Interconnected Electric System (SENI).
The government later announced that President Medina will not attend the inauguration of several important public works. On the list of public works that had been announced would be inaugurated on 16 and 17 March in addition to Punta Catalina in Azua, are the Navarrete to Puerto Plata highway, the Santiago to Puerto Plata Tourist Highway (Gregorio Luperón). Also in Greater Santo Domingo the II-B Section of the Santo Domingo Beltway, the Palace of Justice in Santo Domingo, the Ecological Avenue, the renovated museums at the Plaza de la Cultura, and the Ozama and La Isabela river La Zurza water treatment plant.
