JCE opens the presidential and congressional campaign

The Central Electoral Board (JCE) opened the electoral campaign for the President and Vice President, 32 senators and 178 legislators. The election is scheduled for Sunday, 17 May 2020. Around 7.5 million Dominicans are eligible to vote in the election, including Dominican expats that live in the United States, Canada, Europe, Central and South America and the Caribbean and have registered to vote.

The plenary session of the JCE is presided over by Julio César Castaños Guzmán, and its members are Roberto Saladín Selin, Carmen Imbert Brugal, Rosario Graciano de los Santos and Henry Mejía Oviedo.

The campaign is open until Thursday, 14 May 2020. The JCE announced that political candidates are authorized to spend RD$900 million on their campaigns.

The announcement would be followed in the late evening with the ban on campaigning due to the spread of Covid-19 virus. At 9pm on 18 March 2020, President Medina would announce the suspension of all campaigning.
