
Several universities and private schools have announced shutdowns or instructed their students to continue with their classes online. Classes nationwide had closed on Friday for the preparation of centers that would be used for the municipal election. The centers were scheduled to reopen on Wednesday, 18 March. The measures were announced by the educational centers beforeofficial notice by the Medina administration.
Among those that are closing is the government arts classes at the Palacio de Bellas Artes.
Private schools Colegio de la Salle, Lux Mundi, Babeque, Colegio Santo Domingo and others have moved their classes online. The Association of Private Educational Institutions (AINEP) said on Monday, 16 March, they had met with Education Minister Antonio Peña Mirabal, to communicate their request for allowing the voluntary closure of schools that could continue classes online.
Infotep had announced it would reopen on 18 March after clean up. But it is expected the vocational education classes will remain closed at least for another two weeks.
At the higher learning level, several centers have also announced class closures or classes online. These include:
Altos de Chavon Arts School at both its La Romana and Santo Domingo campuses.
Instituto Tecnológico de las Américas (ITLA) says classes will continue only online.
The National Pedro Henríquez Ureña University (UNPHU) announced classes will be online until the end of the quarter.
The Pontifical Catholic University Madre y Maestra (PUCMM) suggested to its university community to suspend the large activities scheduled for March and April, until precise information about the coronavirus is available.
The Apec University says classes will now be online as of Wednesday, 18 March.
The Iberoamerican University (Unibe) announced that as of Tuesday, 17 March, they will begin the transition to virtual classes.
The state university, UASD, announced the suspension of classes indefinitely. The university said it expects to soon be able to make virtual classes available to students.
Intec announced it will be open through its virtual class programs.
