President Medina names Dr. Jorge Marte to High Commission for Coronavirus

Dr. Jorge Marte Baez was appointed through Decree 131-20 on Thursday, 19 March 2020 as medical advisor to the Executive Branch. The physician, who has been the chairman of the Department of Medicine at the Center for Diagnosis, Advanced Medicine and Telemedicine (Cedimat) since 2013, will be the representative of the medical community at the High Commission for the Prevention and Control of Covid-19 recently named by President Danilo Medina.

At the time of his appointment, he is on the staff of Clinica Abreu. He also is a pulmonologist/intensivist and sleep specialist at Grupo Medical Net in Santo Domingo.

Dr. Marte is a graduate from the Santo Domingo Technological Institute (Instituto Tecnologico de Santo Domingo – INTEC). He has a specialty in internal medicine at the Salvador B Hospital. Gautier Hospital. He specialized in Critical Medicine and Intensive Care at Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana, Cuba.

Dr. Marte was a founding director of the country’s first sleep lab, the Laboratorio del Sueño of the Clínica Corazones Unidos (1998-2013). He was also director of the School of Medicine O&M University Project / Harvard Medical International from 2006-2012 prior to joining Cedimat.
