Modern Revolutionary Party (PRM) presidential candidate Luis Abinader announced that PRM advertising for the presidential and congressional election is suspended and that he will be working from home. He said his team is working on ideas for solutions to the difficult health and economic crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. He said the PRM has set up a virtual platform for collaborative working with each of the participants at home. Polls show Abinader is likely to be the next Dominican President.
“We would have liked the President [President Medina] to call for a great pact of national unity to confront the situation we are living in today; everyone knows that we are open and willing to cooperate, a position we reiterate, especially now that the people’s difficulties are worsening with the tightening of measures to control the epidemic,” he says.
He repeated the first recommendation he made in his speech to the country last Wednesday. “I reiterate today, firmly to the President, that the special contingency fund be urgently created to provide a minimum of 10 thousand pesos per month to all the formal and informal workers who have been made redundant. Not to do so now would be inhumane and very dangerous for the country,” he stressed.
