Demand for fuel collapses as Dominicans stay at home

As reported in Listin Diario, the president of the board of directors of the Dominican Oil Refinery (Refidomsa), Felix Jimenez (Felucho), says that local demand has dropped from an average of 2.1 million barrels per month to 700,000 42-gallon barrels. He said this is a third of what it was in the past.

Jimenez said the refinery has sufficient inventory to supply the demand. He said the inventory had been purchased at around US$60 the barrel, more than a month ago, so the Refinery would not be benefiting from the crash in fuel prices worldwide. He said Refidomsa supplies 48% of the total hydrocarbon consumption in the country. “We sell 26 million barrels annually, an average of 8.7 million per month,” said Jimenez.
