The mayors are scheduled to be sworn into office on 24 April 2020, but this may not be so. The winners of the city governments for San Cristobal, Puerto Plata, San Francisco de Macoris and Vicente Noble all tested positive.
Puerto Plata’s Roquelito García was among the first to be tested. He was immediately isolated. Siquio Ng de la Rosa for San Francisco de Macoris was as well and is hospitalized. News reports are that mayor-elect Domingo de los Santos is also sick with the disease.
The mayors urge the population to adhere to the stay at home and social distancing measures.
